Preparation Begins for FMI General Chapter 2027: A Path of Listening, Renewal, and Discernment for the Children of Mary Immaculate

The religious congregation of the Fathers and Brothers, Sons of Mary Immaculate (FMI), is entering a time of profound grace, reflection, and hope: preparations for the 2027 FMI General Chapter have officially begun. This event calls upon the entire congregation to set out on a journey to discern its mission in light of the Gospel and the founding charism.
What is a General Chapter?
The General Chapter is the highest representative and fraternal authority of the Congregation of the Sons of Mary Immaculate. Far from being a mere administrative or governing body, it is a true ecclesial space for communal discernment.
During this meeting, the capitulars review the life of the institute, evaluate the pastoral and missionary work carried out in recent years, and elect the Superior General and his Council, who will assume leadership of the congregation for the coming term.

How does this process work?
The Chapter is not limited to the weeks that the assembly lasts; it involves a process divided into stages:
- Preparatory Phase: The Various Local Communities and Regions
- They prepare by consulting their members, reflecting on their religious life, and drafting contributions on the current situation of the institute.
- Chapter Assembly: Elected delegates from around the world gather at the Motherhouse to engage in dialogue, evaluate the life of the congregation, and outline priority areas of action.
- Election of Leadership: The Superior General and his Councilors are elected to serve during the new term.
- Dissemination and Implementation: The guidelines from the Chapter are shared with all communities so that they may be put into practice in their daily mission.
Importance to the congregation
This event is vital because it enables the Religious Sons of Mary Immaculate to revitalize their charism in today's world, respond courageously to apostolic challenges, and strengthen the bonds of fraternity among all the religious who serve in the various countries where they are present.
How can we support this process from the outside?
Although the decisions are up to the religious and chapter delegates, the spiritual family, the laity, collaborators, friends, and parish communities are invited to actively join in from the heart:
- Unite in constant prayer: Offer prayers and intentions for religious and for the fruits of each preparatory stage.
- Invoking the Holy Spirit: Asking in particular that the light of the Spirit guide the minds and hearts of the capitulars as they discern God’s will.
- Staying Connected: Follow the news and resources that will be shared to provide spiritual guidance on this journey toward 2027.
With our eyes fixed on Mary, Immaculate, we entrust this chapter process to her, that it may continue to bear fruit in the form of dedication and service.
