Father Baudouin’s Congregation project

Father Baudouin never managed, during his life, to found the Congregation of Religious whose project he had been carrying out since 1799 and although he had, constantly, near him, numerous disciples eager to get involved and whom he trained for this purpose.

His project was to have priests animated like him by the Spirit of Jesus, Incarnate Word (adorations of the Incarnate Word), praying and sharing together (Interview of the brothers), reading the Bible a lot.

He thought that these religious priests would be a living force in the Church: the ministry, the training of priests and the missions.

The Congregation of the Sons of Mary Immaculate

It is these disciples, mainly professors of the Minor Seminary of Chavagnes, who, in 1841 obtained from Mgr Soyer, Bishop of Luçon, authorization to regroup in a Congregation and to pronounce religious vows, under the guidance of Father Charles-Isidore Baizé, Superior of the Seminary of Chavagnes.

The Congregation became a Pontifical right in 1857 under the name of Children (or Sons) of Mary Immaculate.

The number of IMFs has never exceeded 200, a figure reached in the 1960s.

There are currently 76 in 4 regions: France-Quebec, Antilles, Venezuela and Africa.
