The Ursulines' cross
Before drawing the Cross, Sister Aurora Perez Blond UdJ meditated on its symbolism.
History of the UrsulinesStep by step
Symbol of the crucified Christ and of the passion of the people.
Symbol of Easter: Christ's Passover and the disciples' Passover.
Symbol of victory over darkness and sin.
Symbol of the bond between God and humanity.
Symbol of the victory of Love.
The Ursulines' cross
The color black recalls passion, suffering, sin, and the men and women who are Christ crucified, even today.
The Cross is broken and irregular. Our world is broken, there are barriers, our barriers, our psychological blocks, our fears, our idols, all our discouragements.
Jesus is not on that cross: He is RESSUCITE. There is no face of Christ crucified; this is our daily call to live as the Risen People: the Easter People, the Joyful People.
The silver color, slightly in relief next to the black, shines through, symbolizing that life is stronger than death. This is the Passover of the disciples, our Passover - we are the disciples of a risen, living Christ.
For us, Ursulines de Jésus, this means we want to strengthen the Bond that God has made with His People, with each person, to be a Bridge, with arms open to welcome. And especially for us, to be a Link, through Jesus the Incarnate Word, in our world, on this earth, in our mission, our community.
That's why the words Verbum caro factum est (The Word became flesh) are written on the back.
Wearing this Cross means saying "yes" every day; it's not a piece of jewelry, an accessory worn on our clothes. It's a commitment to live the Incarnation in humility, in the midst of the world, with Jesus.
