The Ursulines' cross

Before drawing the Cross, Sister Aurora Perez Blond UdJ meditated on its symbolism.

History of the Ursulines

Step by step

Symbol of the crucified Christ and of the passion of the people.

Symbol of Easter: Christ's Passover and the disciples' Passover.

Symbol of victory over darkness and sin.

Symbol of the bond between God and humanity.

Symbol of the victory of Love.

The Ursulines' cross

The color black recalls passion, suffering, sin, and the men and women who are Christ crucified, even today.

La Croix est brisée et irrégulière. Notre monde est brisé, il y a les barrières, nos barrières, nos blocages psychologiques, nos peurs, nos idoles, tous nos découragements.

Jesus is not on this cross: He is RISEN. There is no face of the crucified Christ; it is for us the daily call to live as a resurrected People: People of Easter, Joyful People.

The silver color, slightly raised near the black, shines, symbolizing that life is stronger than death. This is the Passover of the disciples, our Passover – we are the disciples of a resurrected, living Christ.

For us, Ursulines of Jesus, this means that we want to strengthen the Bond that God has made with his People, with each person, to be a Bridge, with arms open to welcome. And particularly for us, to be Link, through Jesus the Incarnate Word, in our world, on this earth, in our mission, our community.

It is for this reason that the Words are written on the back: Verbum caro factum est, The Word became flesh.

Carrying this Cross means saying “yes” every day; it is not a piece of jewelry, an accessory worn on clothing. For us, it is the commitment to live the Incarnation in humility, in the middle of the world, with Jesus.
